STORY
The Renault 5 Turbo , launched in 1980, is a motorsport legend, born from Renault's desire to shine in rallying. Developed on the basis of the popular Renault 5, it is radically different from it by its turbo engine mounted in a rear mid-position, its widened wings and its aggressive design by Marcello Gandini , which gives it a look that is both sporty and charismatic.
Designed to combine power and agility, the R5 Turbo features a 1.4-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, delivering up to 160 horsepower in its standard version, a feat for a city car at the time. Its rear-wheel drive architecture and low weight gave it explosive performance and exceptional handling, particularly suited to the winding tracks of rallies.
The Renault 5 Turbo distinguished itself on the circuits, notably in the famous events of the World Rally Championship , where it competed with the biggest, asserting its status as a small bomb. Produced in limited editions, notably the Turbo 1 and Turbo 2 versions, it is today an emblematic model, prized by collectors and celebrated as an icon of Renault's innovation and sporting passion.
